Pro Silva Ireland Conference: Chairs represent Integrate Network and attend launch of new CCF handbook

Integrate Network chairs, Dermot Dunphy and Jonathan Spazzi, recently attended the Pro Silva Ireland conference in March. The aim of the conference was to launch the new handbook called “A Guide to Continuous Cover Forestry Practise in Ireland“.

This well attended conference brought together foresters, forest owners, ecologists, researchers, educators, policymakers, and artists to discuss how CCF is contributing to Irelands timber production, biodiversity, and climate, both now and the future.

The handbook was produced by Pro Silva Ireland for those who want to grow a sustainable timber resource while actively promoting the wider benefits provided by forests.

The book was officially launched by Barry Delaney, Director of Forestry with the Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine along with associate professor, Dr Tomas Vrska, president of Pro Silva Europe

Speaking at the book launch and conference, Delany highlighted how CCF is supported in the current forestry programme, given how it aligns with EU and Irish policy approaches to sustainable forest management, and promotes long-term environmental stability, species diversity, and low impact interventions.

Jonathan Spazzi, representing Teagasc and the Integrate Network, took part in a lively panel discussion delving into forest resilience, policy and challenges facing Irish forestry. The panel discussion brought together key stakeholders, fostering a meaningful dialogue on how to navigate future challenges and opportunities in Irish forestry.
